A drive to Waterton Park and back.

Our plan today was to visit Waterton National Park. We have always liked the simplicity, friendliness and quietness of this park compared to Banff and Jasper. And we were not disappointed.

Our first stop was the Bison Paddock by the park entrance. Not only did we see bison but also a lot of native plants blowing in the strong wind.

We then drove up to Red Rock Canyon. It is sad to see how a fire in 2018 destroyed almost all plants and trees in this valley, but also inspiring to see how plant life is coming back strong after only eight years. The red rock canyon itself is as enjoyable as ever and many people (mid-week and late in September) were enjoying the wonderful weather.

Finally, we drove into the townsite and enjoyed our lunch beside the beach on Waterton Lake. Beach of course needs to be taken with a few grains of salt. It is composed entirely of small rocks. But it does not take away from the beauty of the place.

Lots of wind, welcome to Alberta, LOL.

The Bison paddock is looking healthy. Back on the prairies, wind , clear skies.

It's great to see the plant life coming back, and the healthy herd of Bison. The evidence of the 2018 fires is very visible. It will take Mother Nature a lot more time to recover.

A picnic lunch was appreciated. Lee tried his knack of skipping stones, a wee challenge in the wind blown waters.
