Shady Rest RV Park, Houston BC (2 stars)
We drove into Houston today to buy a couple of supplies, fuel up Chuck and fill a propane tank. Houston is a forgettable little place living off forestry and the gas pipeline project.
Lee had never used a Co-op Cardlock before. He went there because they fill propane tanks. They indicated they would also sell regular fuel to him since there was an attendant there. What a surprise! The fuel was 20 cents per litre cheaper than the "retail" stations in town.
We have made a decision not to take Chuck and the Schooner over to Haida Gwaii. It will cost $ 925 each way and it takes 8 hours to cross with the ferry. A quick internet search shows we can fly from Edmonton and get a week in a hotel there for the same price. Wow. We are planning for after Roads Less Gravelled already.
What a disappointment! The local quilt shop is no longer in business. Gosh, guess I will have to dig into the boxes of my own fabric. Getting an itch to do some quilt making. I have ideas for small wall hangings and one must make one for the pattern that will also be prepared. The Susan Bamford Collection has been sorely neglected.
Our site spot here at Shady Rest is full service so we are taking advantage to charge batteries and phones and catch up on our communication. Everything here moves at a slower pace - there is no need to rush. A lot of the RVer's here are the men working on the gas pipeline.
As I type, I can hear the CN northern mainline train engine blowing his horn. Either at a road crossing or trying to convince a moose to move.
