Where is the forestry trunk road.
Map - Looking for the Houston Palisades TrailShady Rest RV Park, Houston BC (2 stars)
Lee suggested we check out the Houston Palisades Trail south of town. It looked pretty nice on the internet and it was a nice day. So, off we went. Well, it turns out that the road which branches off the Equity Mines logging road, called the Dungate Forest Service road (no signs, just used the odometer), was rough for Chuck the truck with huge pot holes and recently cleared trees that had fallen over the road. We ventured in for a couple of kilometers and decided to turn back It would has been another ten clicks or so before reaching the trail head. Turning around was dicey, with Lez getting mighty anxious as Chuck backed into the bush a few times in order to turn back.
Small town, this Houston. We had heard there was a car wash in town and we wanted to give Chuck a cleaning. We received several ambiguous directions from locals only to finally find the car wash at the back of the Goodyear Tire dealer. The attendant started a timer, Lee washed the truck, and he paid for the use after he was done. Pretty simple.
Enjoyed the 2nd cup of coffee sitting at the picnic table in the warm sun, just observing the quiet RV park, and a Harlequin CD in the background. So peaceful and relaxing. So many bird sounds at this time of day and no mosquitoes. Am thinking of names for our next adventures as Lee notes after Roads Less Gravelled. I'm torn - a house that doesn't move or seeing more of this country with no fixed timeline or final destination.
