And then the lights went out.
Surfside RV Resort, Parksville BC (2 stars)
We had just finished breakfast when we lost shore power in the Schooner. Lee went out for a look and determined that our neighbours were also without power. A little more research and we determined that all of the mid-island, including Parksville and Qualicum Beach had lost power (almost 28,000 customers).
What was most interesting (and optimistic) was that our solar panels, in a rain and snow storm continued to charge the 12 volt batteries. Our thoughts returned to the idea of more dry camping this year.
Hobbes went out for a stroll as three deer wandered by the Schooner. Once again they were curious about each other, the deer more so about Hobbes. Things got too close though and one of the deer kicked at Hobbes. Hobbes ran scared around the RVs but returned to the Schooner steps, wanting in. No injuries, except his ego.
Lez stretched to get out of bed and seeing the snow on the ground was very tempted to sleep the day away.
However, the sewing machine called - one more curtiain to make - this time, the big window in the bedroom. Weather was cool, but Hobbes still wanted to go outside. So out he went, Lee with camera because four Black Tailed Deer were eyeing the oranger critter who was also curious about the deer. He got a little to close for comfort and one deer swiped at him with a hoof. Hobbes dashed away, headed for our door. We checked him over very carefully, no wounds visible and after going over his body - nothing hurt. But he sure was spooked and slept snuggled in his favourtite spot on the bed for most of the rest of the day. We both kept checking on him, and he wasn't leaving his spot.
Texted with Ralph, he is feeling better today, and we will be bringing him back to the island early in the week.
The day ended peacefully, one new curtain, and one pussy cat snuggled in his basket. Enough adventure for all of us.
