The $ 300 baguette adventure.
Surfside RV Resort, Parksville BC (2 stars)
Lee agrees with Lez that a cheese fondue would be nice tonight, so out we go to get a few groceries and the all important baguette for the fondue. Quick stop at the pet store for a couple of Hobbes things; no baguette there. Then next door to our new favourite grocery store, Eat Fresh, for a bunch of groceries; they are sold out of baguettes. No problem, we go next door to Thrifty Foods for a couple of things and, yup, they are sold out of baguettes. No problem. We drive over to Quality Foods, grab a couple of things but they are sold out of baguettes. Well OK, we drive over to Coombs. First stop seeing as we are out here is the Dutch Store. We get a few things; they don't sell bakery products. Now Lee is getting nervous. There is one more store before the next one which is all they way in Port Alberni. We'd be halfway to Tofino by then. So, last stop, we go into Goats on the Roof. We get a few more things and, bingo, they have baguettes. Chuck is loaded with freshly purchased stuff, but we have the baguette.
And an enjoyable cheese fondue it was, I might add.
And I quote Lee: Dec 24, 2021 - " People are really not bothered by this weather, probably because (1) they are mostly retired prairie people and (2) they know it will be gone in one or two days." Note - that was the 24th and it is now the 29th and no sign of it leaving soon. Ahhh but no complaining - right Let's go shopping!
Well we needed a baguette because we decided we would have a cheese fondue and watch a movie or two tonight. It is still pretty cool out there, hovering around -2C.
