Map - Hope to Oliver

Apple Beach Resort, Oliver, BC (2 stars)

We were off for the Okanagan and a repeat, but reverse route from last fall. Highway 3 to Oliver was mostly abandoned. And the experience of pulling the Schooner has mostly come back to Lee.

So, we show up at Apple Beach Resort just outside of Oliver. After Lee registers, he is pointed to site number four. A quick reconnaissance shows that the site is off a seemingly narrow road and between two trees whose canopies seem to meet in the middle. Someone looking like the resort owner comes over to watch. His eyes are joined by a number of the neighbours who are all sitting around picnic tables with nothing better to do than watch this thing unfold. OK, back up to the site entrance at an angle, start to turn as the Schooner wheels are at the first tree, sharp turn, adjust once for about one foot, back up into the site and, presto, we are perfectly parked. BIG sigh of relief and a big internal smile as the neighbours congratulate Lee.

Lez grins that grin when the neighbours were impressed: The Man NAILED that docking! A perfect ending to a day of safe and quiet travel.

Still thinking about yesterday's very quiet trip! We have never seen a BC ferry so empty and quiet in our over 40 years of crossings. Very enjoyable!

The Crowsnest HWY through the Cascades was so very quiet - a few Alberta and Ontario plates heading east and not a lot of BC plates. The semi's were our travelling companions.

We are nestled into the Apple Beach RV Park, quite busy actually. Winds were just howling and rocking the Schooner, we figured we were in for a noisy night. We passed on a BBQ dinner and brought out the Instant Pot and had a tasty meal ready in 30 minutes. Thanks for the chicken thigh leftovers, mom!

Then, silence, sort of. No wind - but the frogs! A million must be croaking away across the street. Crickets on the prairies, frogs in the mountain marshes. Somewhat of a comfort. We decided to do our usual almost midnight walk - and the wind was totally gone! A pleasant sit in the benches along the beach, beautiful reflections in the water which were captured on film - I'm sure you are not surprised.
