Banff Avenue on a sunny afternoon.
Tunnel Mountain Campground, Banff, AB (2 stars)
We decide to take the Banff bus service, which comes up to the Tunnel Mountain campground, and head into Banff for a look-see. A fifteen minute ride and we are in downtown Banff.
It is Thursday afternoon in the fall and the place is pretty busy. Lee wonders what it might be like on a Saturday afternoon in July.
It is very touristy of course but we enjoy the stroll. Banff Avenue is pedestrian-only for most of its length so that makes it more enjoyable. After a neat T-shirt, some milkshakes and a stop at the Fudgery, we catch a bus back to the Schooner.
As it gets dark, we enjoy sitting around the firebowl for a while. This is getting to be a nice habit.
Happy Fall y'all.
Now for today's astronomical trivia. Today we experienced the autumnal (fall) equinox, the halfway point between our longest and shortest days of the year. It is the moment when summer ends and fall begins.
The Autumn Equinox 2022 in Northern Hemisphere was at 7:03 pm Mountain Time. Nothing spectacular, no photo can actually record anything - if it's not a cloudy day, the sun is visible. At this point, daylight will continue to get shorter until the Winter Solstice 2022 in the Northern Hemisphere at 2:47 pm Mountain time on Wednesday, December 21, 2022.
We enjoyed our first fall sunset quietly enjoying a coffee sitting by our firepit, and watching stars appear in the clear darkening sky.
It was a quiet ending to a great day riding the bus in to Banff and not worrying about parking Chuck, and giving Lee a treat - no driving - and able to see the sights along the way. Banff is a bustling place, very tourist tuned, but a great place to shop and get ideas for projects too! And OH - the Fudgery - yes, temptation overruled.
