Lee says he was a bit apprehensive driving to Banff and Lake Louise because he did not have internet access last night and could not reserve an RV site. Oh well, let's just drive down and take what we can get.
First bit of bad advice was from the Parks Canada gate entrance employee at the intersection of Highways 93 and 1. Sure, there are campgrounds open in Lake Louise and Yoho Park. Nope. Yoho is closed for the season and Lake Louise is full.
Second bit of bad advice was from Sally, Chuck's automated navigation lady. Take this exit into Banff and then to Tunnel Mountain campground. Nope. Lee likens the next couple of kilometers to taking an RV through Paris's Arc de Triomphe - we pulled the Schooner through downtown Banff and onto a road to Tunnel Mountain campground.
Enough of that. We are parked in a nice turn-out in the National Park campground. Well laid out. The feds do a good job of their campgrounds.
Good thing Lee "knows" the RV as we maneuvered the busy tourist filled streets, and one big truck using as much road as we were heading face to face. Somewhat tense moments but we made it into the National Park at Tunnel Mountain safe and sound - in a welcomed pull through spot - aligning the sewer connects the biggest (not a biggy) task.
We relaxed over candle lit dinner and bottle of wine to go with the spicy beef and veggie dinner. Hobbes slept in his basket, in his favourite back window view from his spot.
We did a small walk around the campground - people are from all over the world. The RV rental business is booming.
Our propane firepit was set up, a couple of cups of hot cocoa and we just enjoyed the evening as darkness set in, stars came out and RV lights around went out. As often is the case, we were last lights out from where we viewed the grounds.
