A disappointing way to end the trip.     [May 15, 2026]

I don't need this aggravation.

Paradise Motel, Sicamous BC (1 star)

I had lots of time today so I wandered to the Okanagen via Princeton and then north to the Coquihalla Connector. Even though it was overcast, the views were nice and the traffic was light.

I stopped at the Dairy Queen in West Kelowna to grab a bite and access the internet so I could look for a motel. As I came out of the DQ, there were three guys standing near by. One of them approached me and told me to turn my car around and head for the US border so I could join all my Alberta seperatist friends down there with Donald Trump. This was all encompassed by a full flight of expletives, deleted. I actually thought they were getting up enough courage to kick my car, or me, or worse. I hopped in and drove off.

I was still looking for a hotel, but with little luck. The most run-down places in West Kelowna were averaging about $ 375 to $ 400 per night. I'm not sure why these prices; maybe there was a convention in town.

I was now driving down HIghway 97 in Kelowna. For those of you not familiar, Kelowna is a fairly large city that has only one major road through it, that being HIghway 97. All residents and visitors alike need to use that one road. And there I was in the middle lane heading north through Kelowna.

I can only think that I was treated the way I was because my car has Alberta license plates and perhaps they think all Albertans want to separate from Canada and join the USA. I tried numerous times to signal left or signal right so I could get off the road at some point. It was bumper to bumper traffic and no one was letting me in. A spot in the lane almost opened up a couple of times but before I could start the lane change they would accelerate and fill the void. No one would make eye contact either.

Lez and I always paid attention to our spidy senses and it was usually smart to have done so. My gut was just telling me to forget about it and just drive home. I was locked in traffic until north of Winfield, at which time vehicles thinned out.

Not a nice way to end some wonderful times with family and friends to celebrate Lez's wonderful life. But, once the stupidity of an Alberta separation is put to bed, maybe then I can return to BC to see some more family and friends.
