Historic Reesor Ranch, Cypress Hills SK
We left early for the drive to the Cypress Hills. It rained off and on during the drive, but it cleared up as we got to the Historic Reesor Ranch.
The ranch is a National Historic Homestead. It is a working ranch, meaning there are plenty of horses and cows around. They have converted the main house into a B and B. The former barn is now the dining hall.
We are staying in the Frontier Cabin, a small fully-equipped cabin that is decked out in western style. Two of the ranch dogs, Charlie and Cowboy were there to greet us as we unloaded, as well as a ranch cat that we have been told is over 15 years old.
Supper was the traditional BBQ steak with all the trimmings. It was great. Josh Reesor is a wonderful host.
We stopped for a quick bite at McD's in Swift Current. Clear blue skies soon changed to clouds and rain drops, but by the time we reached the ranch, the blue skies returned with fluffy white clouds. The ranch is nestled in the Cypress Hills in Saskatchewan. Established in 1904, the ranch is now The Historic W.D. and Alice Reesor Ranch. It is now a Sask Provincial Heritage Property. We have stayed at the ranch before all the current designations, and are glad to see the history has been shared so all can see just how this land in Canada has been able to share its past. We are looking forward to see it again.
