Rainfall on the prairies seems different than rainfall on Vancouver Island. Out there it comes down softly and continously. Here on the prairies we get heavy squalls and thunderstorms and lighting. Like today.

I was awoken this morning to the loud crashing of a prairie thunderstorm. We have not been subjected to such a thunderstorm since we left Edmonton for our travels on Roads Less Gravelled. Such storms are not prevalent on the west coast or Vancouver Island. I realize I have missed the fresh scent of the prairie rain.

The dips in the paved roads are filled with rain water and as some of the cars drive through the puddles that cannot be avoided, the spray sends the water into the next lane of traffic. It feels good to be home.
