Lee decided today would be a good day to amble through the Alberta countryside between Rosebud and Drumheller. The land is full of coulees, ravines, creeks, canyons and badland topography, all changing colour as we start autumn and all surrounded by wheat, barley and canola fields being harvested.
We drove off the beaten path several times to get some great shots of the land. It is truly beautiful.
At one point, we saw the farmer unloading grain, via auger, into bins. That brought back memories of helping Alf Poulter at harvest time so many years ago north of Regina. And then, the two Kaiser Frazers still in the field in Wayne reminded him of his dad who had one of these in the Netherlands before we emigrated to Canada.
Today we did our best to drive on roads less gravelled, however, to truly see the Alberta prairies off "the grid", Chuck the Truck had to get just a tad dusty. Inside is as dusty too - as we had windows wide open. 113 photos later, rivers, ravines, vistas of badlands and crispy dry prairie grasses underfoot, the endless blue skies followed us as we arrived safely back at the Schooner. What a beautiful country we have.
