Really old wooden buildings.
Bonanza RV Park, Dawson City YT (2 stars)
We poked around Dawson City today, taking in some of the gold rush-era sights.
At the end of the day, Lee washed Chuck in the RV car wash. He wondered a week or so ago why all RV parks up here have car washes. Seeing the line of very dirty vehicles explained it all. In Dawson City, there are only three roads out and all of them have some distance of gravel and-or construction. No wonder.
We wonder what Chuck will look like when we return from Tuktoyaktuk in a few days.
The Schooner was able to rest today, and no dishes were tossed around and no medicine cabinet to reorganize, etc.
Lots of photos of the city and surroundings. It is in the middle of a range of mountains and sits along the Yukon and Klondike Rivers. I did not expect that, assuming it was a long flat land of rock and shrubs. Main street is lined with bustling businesses that appear in the era of the early days. The larger Yukon river is crossed by the Dawson City ferry, aka George Black ferry. A beautiful park invites one to just sit and enjoy the day. The mountains are clear and snow topped, and there are no bugs!
What started our as a sprinkly day in Dawson City turned out to an almost clear sky, ending with the sun shining brightly as we are comfy back at the RV, and planning the next few days to Tuktoyaktuk. It will not be totally black out dark tonight.
