The Coquihalla is frozen.
Map - Clearwater to MerrittMoon Shadow RV Park, Merritt, BC (2 stars)
Lee noticed the snow near the top of the pass between Kamloops and Merritt. Shortly after lunch in Merritt, he noticed the frozen traffic on the Coq heading south. Luckily, we were before the last exit to Merritt, so we dove off after contacting a local RV park.
It turns out there was a serious accident south of Merritt, but we were comfortable and settled in Moon Shadow RV Park on the outskirts of Merritt. The Coldwater River runs right along the park. We took Hobbes over for some "out" time and taking pictures. However, after saying "hello" to a couple enjoying the setting sun in their lawn chairs, Hobbes just wanted to go home.
We had a fabulous meal of leftovers, chicken, dressing and wine. We are definitely suffering.
Tomorrow we will head across the Coq and finally hit the Fraser Valley.
Lez doesn't open her usual stitchery while travelling today: Yes, one of those days where there were photos to take, and keeping an eye on road conditions as we travelled. Yesterday there was a major road covering snowfall on the Coq around the Merritt area. It was all dried off the roads by the time we reached the city, evidence of the snow on the roadside has been duly digitally captured.
As we were sitting in the stalled traffic, we got a surprise phone call from Brenda Hicks - she is in Burnaby! What a surprise for a possible visit. We texted back and forth about the logistics and realized that after docking in Hope and setting out again to drive to Burnaby at dinner traffic thru the Fraser Valley, it would be at least 2 hours one way. (I've done that route many times, and the traffic is not fun). As we discussed the possibility and logistics of a visit a decision was made for us. We won't be in Hope for several hours! Our now different issue - that being a serious auto accident west of Merritt. Various reports are saying a deer and pickup truck were involved. As we drove south in Merritt, traffic came to a standstill. As we sat we did a quick search and a subsequent phone call had us booked into the Moon Shadow RV Park for the evening. We will head back to that route in the morning to stay in Hope tomorrow night. We will have to pass on the visit at this time.
We are how settled into Moon Shadow for the night. A needed stretch walk with Hobbes gave us a glimpse of the Coldwater River before dinner. Spaghetti, leftover chicken and dressing, Alfredo sauce, left overs of wine - a "bin ends" dinner. Dessert - our canned Port Ordze Pears and ice cream - and our evening coffee.
More photos to cull, crop and save kept me busy for the rest of the evening. Even snapped a pic of one sliver of the Moon!
