Laughs with Ted.
Map - Port Ordze to Clifford E Lee, Leduc and back Our first visit to Clifford E. Lee in a long time The Devon Discovery Centre Visiting with our old friend TedPort Ordze, Sherwood Park, AB (2 stars)
We were amazed to see that the birch trees nearest the water at Clifford E. Lee bird sanctuary are all dead. We assume it was due to high water in the spring. The levels are still higher than we have ever seen, even first thing in the spring.
There are many, many American Coots in Clifford E. Lee this year. They have the strangest looking feet and are not scared of humans.
Next up, we walked through the Leduc #1 historical site south of Devon. There are many examples of historical oil industry equipment, including the Imperial Oil derrick that started it all on February 26, 1947. There was also another piece of equipment of interest to Lee - an Alberta Trailer Sales trailer, later to become ATCO.
Later on, we had dinner with Ted at his place in Leduc. Lee worked with him at Alberta Pensions and have shared hockey and personal stories for years. We had a great time.
Lez is feeling serene: Our last walk through the Clifford E Lee Bird Sanctuary was when we received the call that our home of 30+ years was officially no longer ours. The flurry of packing/selling/tossing/giving away began.
We wandered through the paths, fed the chickadees, marvelled at the Coots, enjoyed taking another 100+ photographs to add to our collection - and now able to share a very special walk-about location we have visited summer and winter over the years.
The walk through the outdoor displays of the oil derricks from the start of the Oil industry in Edmonton was interesting. Now, just reading the WIKI version of how it all came about - we MUST go back again when the museum is open (LOL closed on Mondays) and go through the indoor museum and displays. After reading the snippets of information, I find the whole discovery information very interesting - and now feel a closer appreciation for the company that employed my father througout his career.
Our day continued until well into the evening leisurely enjoying adult beverages on the balcony and continuing conversation over a very delicious roast dinner at Ted's home.
