Chuck hits 19.
Map - Through the Dirt HillsOgema Regional Park, Ogema (2 stars)
Off at the crack of dawn to rumble through the Dirt Hills. Lee would look at the time occasionally and it was always 4-5 hours earlier than he expected. LOL.
A slough of yellow-headed blackbirds was up first. We had never seen so many in one place. Then it was off to see a few elevators (mostly in sad shape) and even one town where Google shows an elevator but in reality it is now gone. A sign of the times.
We have been on the road for a long time, apparently. As we crested a hill beyond which was an endless view of eastern Saskatchewan, Chuck's odometer showed 19,000 kms. It only seems like yesterday that we were waiting for that truck to arrive.
Lez says: Shhh, don't tell anyone. It's before 6 a.m. and I'm wide awake. What a solid sleep - it cooled off nicely, birds are noisy. Time to see what the adventures are planned for the day. Taking an out my back window photo at 5:22 a.m.
Well, the first travel photo of the day was taken at 8:52 a.m. - grain elevators in Horizon. Forecast for the day, a mixed bag LOL. We started of in a rain shower as we wandered away from Ogema, and as the day progresssed, the skies cleared. It was quite warm by the time we got back to the Schooner just before 2. WOW - 169 photos in 5 hours. Culling down. Pic of the day, the falcon that snagged a gopher. We were in the Dirt Hills west of Ogema, and what a land of hills and gullies and sections where you can see for miles and miles! Super photos of falcons and other wildlife. Colourful wildflowers, and yes, even more elevators. A tailgate lunch, and a ribbon of road beckoned us on.
Ended up at the Ogema train station, and the town's memorial for the soldiers who lost their lives for our country in Ypres, Passchendale, Somme and Vimy Ridge.
Caught up on all the photos to yesterday, now to attack today's.
