Planes, trains and automobiles. And horses too.
The Creek car show The Maple Creek light horse showWillowbend Campground, Maple Creek, SK (1 star)
Late in the morning we drove over to the rodeo grounds to catch the light horse show. Connie Martin was the announcer. As we watched the judging of canter, trot and walk by the horses in the outdoor ring, we heard small planes overhead presumably coming in for the fly-in breakfast and we heard and saw Canadian Pacific coming by with very long trains that had an engine in front, in the middle and at the end. Maple Creek is on the CP mainline.
In the afternoon, Lez went to a quilt show at the Legion and Lee went to the car show next door. There were some unusual makes and models among the 50 or so vehicles at the show.
A visit to see horses is never turned down by me! The 2022 Maple Creek Annual Light Horse Dual Judged Show was underway at the rodeo grounds. It is the 91st running of the show! The Martin family is quite involved, including with Connie announcing the Light Horse Competition.
We then headed in to 'the Creek' to check out the Quilt Show and the Car Show.
QOVC quilters KJ Findlay and Marcie Erick from QOVC joined Pam Robertson Rivet's Quilts of Valour - Canada display and we caught up and shared so many ideas. It does the heart good to see what others have been doing in carrying the Quilts of Valour mandate forward. We are very lucky to have so many great volunteers and I am very grateful for all of the volunteering they do.
Oh - I am just reminded that the CP mainline is only 100M north of us - and the Schooner bounces as it goes through. The engineers blow the train whistles loudly - day or night even though it is a gated crossing and the train is visible for miles. I suppose it is better to be safe.
