A day in Waterton National Park [Jul 3, 2026]

Splashing amid the red rocks Wandering in the townsite A hike to Blakiston Falls In the Medicine Hat hotel pool

Red rocks and waves on the lake.

We left Lethbridge mid-morning and drove to Waterton Park. Our first stop was the townsite. We hooked up with some friends of Alec amd Mimi's and wandered through the town. I pulled out my second camera, the one with the zoom lens, and Alec proceeded to take many great shots. Most of the photos you see on this page are taken by him.

At the lake, there was a significant south wind which caused wave caps on the lake. Great views all around, including the historic Prince of Wales hotel perched on the hill north of Upper Waterton Lake.

Next we drove out to Red Rock Canyon. I have been there many times, but it was a first for everyone else in our group. The Red Rock creek bed was busy as usual with many people sitting with their feet in the water. Even Tammy and Kiki ventured down the rocks to the flowing water. All the while, Alec was shooting photos of everything that was happening.

We decided to hike up to Blackiston Falls, about one kilometer one way. We had been warned that there were muddy spots on the trail due to recent rainfall, but they were manageable. Blakiston Falls is a very photogenic place.

On the way back, Alec managed to take photos of several white tailed deer.

We then drove east to Medicine Hat and another pool-friendly hotel.
