Edmonton, and most of the western prairies, received record amounts of rainfall in the last few weeks. Records indicate that it is the second or third most rain in June since records were kept. And there is more to come.
And with that comes new life. This all sounds good, but the day-to-day impacts are far from good.
First of all, the grass has grown incredibly fast in the last few days. The lawn mower and edge trimmer are getting a good workout.
Second, the rain has resulted in an overabundance of mosquito breeding grounds. They are now coming out in droves.
And that is on top of the tent caterpillars which showed up this spring after ten years of being dormant.
