Spreading mom's ashes

Spreading mom's ashes A look around Tregarva and area

Alec and Mimi were heading home today so we got out early to spread mom's ashes.

Our first stop was a small cemetery above Wascana Creek called, appropriately, Regina Wascana Cemetery. It is very small and out of the way but a place mom had seen in earlier years and decided it would be a nice place to spread some of her ashes.

Our second spot was to spread the rest of her ashes in the Qu'Appelle River. We did so from the Russell Hill Road bridge. Very fitting because mom and dad had canoed that stretch of the river many times.

After saying goodbye to Alec and Mimi, we drove Highway 99 to its termination at Highway 6. This is a pretty stretch of road with picturesque views that belie the fact you are on the Saskatchewan prairie.

Next stop was the old village of Tregarva which now has only two houses. The rest is gone. Lee hauled wheat to the Tregarva Pool elevator with Alf Poulter in the 60's. We took some photos of what evidence is left, which is not much.

We then drove a couple of miles south to waht was Brora. It also had grain elevators, also long gone. What is left is the Brora United Church building. It is now a residence and Lee struck up a conversation with the owner who was working in his yard. It turns out that Lee went to school with him and his sister at Thom Collegiate. A small world indeed.

We finished the day by visiting with Brenda Hicks, a long time friend of Lez's. Her daughter Tammy also stopped by and we had a reminiscent time. We then took Brenda for supper at the Lakeshore Restaurant, still a going concern after all these years. We first ate there in 1975 when we lived in Roberts Plaza across the street, still the highest apartment building in Regina.
