Pioneer RV Park, Whitehorse YT (1 star)
Lee enjoys a really lazy start to the day, with a nice Braeburn Lodge cinnamon bun for breakfast. He decides it's a good time to wash the Klondike Highway mud off Chuck and uses the car wash in the RV Park (every RV park has one) to clean off the mud. Chuck looks great again.
Lee notices that a whole whack of million dollar class A motorhomes are starting to show up, being greeted by a person with a clipboard. He asks her what this is all about. It turns out there are three American caravans in the RV park tonight, totalling almost 100 rigs. She is the coordinator (known as the wagon master) for one of the tours. She says the tour company she works for has their Alaska caravans sold out through 2027. They have a second coordinator who follows at the end of the caravan, known as the tail gunner. It's their job to assist any stragglers who are lost, out of fuel, had a breakdown (either personal or vehicle, but I digress).
Good business for the RV Park of course. All sites have been booked, assigned and generating revenue. There is nothing else for them to do. On the downside, Lee has noticed several Canadian rigs come in (most from Alberta) who are leaving again because there is no room in the RV Park for them. Lee, being the Canadian that he is, finds it somewhat ironic. It's a good thing we showed up yesterday and were content to take a 15 amp site.
The thunderstorm was one noisy storm, with hail bouncing on the ground too. No damage to us, and no water coming in any doors or windows. By bed time (not by the sunset, but by the clock), all was quiet, except for the flights coming in on the runway that the RV Park was built at the end of. Yup.
Time to clean house LOL. It's a wipe with a dust cloth, and a sweep of the broom. A spray in the bathroom and we be done.
The InstantPot is cooking up a Split Yellow Pea soup. U2 on the CD player, playing on-line board games, catch up on the blog, chat via Facebook with friends and family across the world.
These are the best of times.
Shortly after 5 the predicted thunderstorm has brought winds and heavy rain. The road/walkways/ground is instantly puddled. Our windows and door are shut tight. Lightning and thunder has struck. Should we lose power, we do have propane heat and stove - and the Instant Pot has successfully made us a pot of split pea soup for dinner. We will stay hunkered in the RV for the night - which does not get dark.
