Map - Stewart to Iskut

Red Goat Lodge and RV Park, Istuk BC (2 stars)

Lee admits this was one scary but very fortunate day. We left Stewart and headed up Highway 37A to Meziadin Junction to stop for gas. There is an access road to the gas station off Highway 37, which Lee wanted to use. It is narrow and at an angle to the highway, with no markers to indicate there is a significant ditch on either side. Well, we drove into the ditch, kept on going and came up the other side. Lee has no idea why we did not have more damage. There was a motorcyclist watching and he could not believe we made it through.

It did damage the bracket holding up the Schooner's spare tire. Lee had no choice but to cut the wire hlding the tire up. The bracket is badly bent and will need to be replaced whenever we can find one. In the meantime, the spare will have to ride in the box of the truck.

We filled up and drove on to Iskut and settled in for a night.

The corner turn in the access road was not very well marked. I noticed after our incident several other vehicle tracks having done the same thing. I suspect they did not drag their 5th wheel over it too. We are so very thankful we had so little damage. I'm sure we will be the talk of the gas stop for months to come.

We moved on, still in shock for a while. Fueled up and breathing again, we headed to our campground for the night. A peaceful walk to the beach was enjoyed, a stiff breeze blowing and the fresh air was appreciated.

Lee cooked up a scrumptious pizza for dinner tonight, and I believe a movie is our entertainment for the evening after finishing our notes.
