In those days, Lee's maternal family lived mostly in a suburb of Rotterdam called Kralingseveer. Dutch words run together quite often and this is an example. Kralingseveer means the Ferry at Kralingen.
Kralingseveer was a typical village that lay up against the dike next to the Maas River. At one time, Lee's grandparents lived in a house on the top of the dike, on the inside slope. During this trip, we stayed with them in their house in the one main road in Kralingseveer which is called the Ijsselmondselaan.
The letters 'ij' are equivalent to the english 'Y' and nowadays Dutch people use a Y instead of IJ. Ijsselmondselaan means 'the lane at the mouth of the Ijssel river'.
