Lee notes that degrees of separation are usually smaller in small towns. Take for example last year's encounters in Pambrun, Saskatchewan. Tonight, we strike up a conversation with the people sitting behind us at the hockey game. You guessed it - they are the grandparents of one of our team's players (the parents and sisters are there also) and they emigrated from the Netherlands by boat, just like Lee did. Small world again.
It doesn't matter where you watch a hockey game or at what level. There is always one person in the crowd heard above all others, giving it to the referee. It can be entertaining, though. "Hey ref, go home with the Glacier Kings on their team bus.". Or how about "Amazing missed call, ref. You made the same bad call in last night's game.".
Lez notes: A day of catching up on emails and Facebook what the Macarena (the besties from the old La Perle neighbourhood) are up to these days. We still "meet" once a month, with one of the 12 being a hostess.
The evening is spent watching the Generals lose a tough one to the Comox Valley Glacier Kings. Comox is now leading the series 2 to 1. Sadly the refereeing was quite one-sided, missed or ignoring some bad calls IMHO, only penalized the Generals. As I noted after the first game, Comox is a very physical team in the VIJHL North Division. The current penalty stats say it all. Campbell River Storm 87 PIM (penalty minutes), Comox 158, Oceaside 113 and Port Alberni 28.
I sound like a hockey home town fan losing a home game, hey. Next round TBD.
