As they got older, Alf and Anne moved back to Regina and into a community sponsored by Saskatchewan teachers groups (Anne had been a teacher).

After Anne passed, Alf moved back west to Swift Current. He was in an apartment and later an assisted-living apartment, where Lee saw him for the last time.

During his time in Swift Current, Alf was involved in the Legion and the Salvation Army.
