After World War II     [1946 - 1972]

Back Home

Upon returning to Canada, Alf was assisted by Canadian Veterans Affairs in about 1946 with purchasing the farm north of Regina. Lee believes that Alf's parents moved onto the farm when he bought it.

The farm had been of mixed use before Alf acquired it. About half of the land was fenced for cows. Alf had no interest in having cows so he converted to grain farming only. With Lee's help, Alf removed all of the barbed wire fencing and posts around 1970.

During this time, Alf became the telephone repairman for the Bluffview Telephone Company, later purchased by the Saskatchewan Telephone Company (renamed to SaskTel).

Bluffview had a number of lines, each servicing a group of farm sites. To differentiate among the farms, each was given a ring pattern of short and long rings. Alf's pattern was a short ring followed by two long rings.
