Lee is intrigued by the double causeway from the mainland to Sir Winston Churchill Provincial Park. He is not disappointed. Great lake views, a fantastic stand of birch (he could hear his chainsaw starting up) and a view to the pelicans on their two small islands in the lake.
The Old Trail highway from Plamondon to Lac La Biche and back was a nice surprise; piddling along at about 80 and enjoying the views of many nice acreages, plus the Lac La Biche Mission historic site.
Lez wakes up with a start: A Cacophonic sound! It is 5 a.m. and there is a screeching, squawking noise on our roof. Hobbes' eyes are as big as saucers. As far as we can tell two birds - both gulls One gull and one hawk or predator bird are having a tiff on the roof of the bedroom. They finally fly off and we can catch more sleep. Upon later inspection, there was no evidence (feathers) of any altercation.
Our adventure travels today have taken us to the Lac La Biche mission aka the Notre-Dame des Victoires mission at Lac La Biche founded by the Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate. Such a small place, but such a large influence in the Lac La Biche area. The mission grounds housed a church, the church rectory, a residential school, the Grey Nuns convent. Today there are archeological remains (foundations) of the convent and the rectory. The church bells can still be rung, as a tour group rang them as they were leaving the church tour.
