Today we became islanders again, via the ferry crossing from Tsawwassen to Duke Point. To the land of higher prices and slower moving residents. We are ready.
As we were waiting for the ferry to load, Lee took Hobbes for a walk in a small green space they have there. After a while, he notices Lez waving at him. And she has someone with her waving also. Wouldn't you know it, our Surfside neighbours Ron and Cami are also going on the ferry after spending some time on the mainland. Hugs and laughs all around.
So, it is not always prudent to judge an RV park by its web site. But, if no Google Street View is available and no (always questionable) reviews are found then it is what is known as a crapshoot. Today, we got shot.
In fairness, there are not many RV parks on the south part of the island that are central to Victoria and Duncan. So, Lee chose Beehive RV Park. Our site 48 had been chosen for us at booking time. Well Jesus Murphy, did you not read my reservation request that said we have a 37 foot fifth wheel. A narrow one-way road through the park, coupled with some sort of praying chapel building at the corner of each site and there was no way Lee could angle the Schooner into the site. Even with the friendly neighbour helping Lez do the pointing and directing. Finally, Lee pulled down to the park entrance, turned around, came at it the wrong way down the one-way road and angled it in. Hobbes must have been miffed at how long this was taking, especially the dozen times the Schooner went forwards and backwards.
Our travels now bring us to the next phase of or Roads Less Gravelled - as we head to our winter docking spot at Surfside.
Duke Point Ferry Tsawwassen to Nanaimo (Duke Pt) the order of travel business today. Fares have gone up! The one way for us this time was $390.40. As always Hobbes has to stay in the RV - and the snoozer in his basket was not arguing. As he went outside when we parked in the Beehive RV Park and Campground, he sat and looked around with that - ho hum, another view, and get this harness off me - I need to explore!
And then the 'fun' began. I will defer to Lee to give his accounting of the experience docking. We have never yet had such a docking space and experience in getting in. I marvel at the great job he did in the end. I would have gone to the office and booked another site - in another campground.
I phoned mom to let her know we were back on the island, she is anxious to see us again, as we are as anxious to catch up with her too!
We settled in and enjoyed a tailgate BBQ of steak and fried spiced up shrimp and Merlot to wash it down. We are safe and sound, right in line with the Victoria Airport runway across the Saanich Inlet. That would be music to my ears.
