Fire in the median.

Lee notes that finding an RV park in the Lower Mainland has always been a challenge. There are just not many of them. This morning he managed to snag one for a couple of nights which is enough to get us over the Salish Sea and onto Vancouver Island.
It was a quiet drive down the Trans-Canada to Hope and then into the Lower Mainland. Around Abbotsford things slowed right down. It turns out there have been grass fires in the Trans Canada Highway median. What we saw was the fire prevention workers mopping up. In due course we reached Eagle Wind RV Park which is a nicely finished place with paved roads and well treed sites. The sites are a little tight and close to each other but Lee must be getting better at backing up the Schooner because he did so in one try. Maybe it was the expert guidance from Lez, the traffic control lady. LOL
Well, so much for the beautiful blue skies and mountain vistas. No, it is not raining - or even cloudy.
The tinder dry land of grasses and forest are now burning - even between the split 4-lane highway heading into the Fraser Valley. There were several slow-downs and stoppages as we and hundreds of other vehicles maneuvered around the fire fighters putting out or cleaning up after the fires. We could "taste" the smoke.
The skies are filled with the blue-grey haze of the smoke, mountains are almost invisible. We are looking forward to getting onto the island and hoping the air will be a little clearer. I understand that the air quality is good.
Our campsite is quiet, and we are comfortably settled catching up on emails and blog and enjoying one of Lee's new famous coffee snackies. I'm planning my adventure once settled in Parksville, that being a quilting retreat on Quadra Island!
