Waters Edge Campground, Fort Macleod, AB (2 stars)
Lee enjoyed the prairie air, prairie wind and prairie views today from the top of Head Smashed In Buffalo Jump Heritage Site. They have a wonderful museum with an exit at the top that brings you to the top of the cliffs where the Blackfeet once chased bison over the cliffs. Something about the prairie air, though.
On the way to Lundbreck Falls via a grid road, we happened on a White Tailed Deer standing in the middle of the road. She moved to the ditch and gracefully jumped the fence. We then noticed her two fawns. She then jumped the fence again ever so gracefully while her fawns ducked down under the lower strand of barbed wire. They were gone in the coulee on the other side in seconds.
There are fish in the Crowsnest River at Lundbreck Falls that attempt to jump the falls in order to go further upstream. That is virtually impossible because of the height of these beautiful falls.
A lot of walking today, but oh the information we read, the artifacts, the history of our land, the wild life, the smell of the prairies. Yes, too many photos taken as always, we will cull them to a handful. We picnic'd lunch at Lundbreck Falls, and just enjoyed the weather - not too hot, not too cold!
I spent the evening cleaning up photos and selecting several as potential blog pics. There is a sub-story that I found as I went through the photos of Mary Macleod - wife of Colonel James Macleod. I will put the photos' information together as it gives a great account of what the women went through during the late 1800's and early 1900's on the unbroken prairies. A life I cannot fathom.
The weather looked like we were in for some thunder-boomers at night - but they never did develop. With a fresh morning, prepped the outside and inside for travel and headed out for Olds. We have our tasks and it really doesn't take too long to be on the road. It's the not getting up too early that determines when we hit the road. LOL.
