After a quick stop in Paradise Hill for groceries, we headed over to the Frenchman Butte National Historic Site. It was here that Wandering Spirit and his band set up a defence against Colonel Strange and is Alberta Field Force. After some hours, the battle was considered a draw.
Wandering Spirit had his men dig rifle pits from where they could defend themselves and return fire to the armed forces. They also dug pits in which their women, children and prisoners could lay low. The historic site has many of those pits still plainly visible at the site. This was one of the last battles of the North West Rebellion.
