Good-bye to the most gentle dog the world has ever seen.
I went for a stroll this afternoon in the Clifford E. Lee nature reserve. It was very peaceful; there were no birds to be seen today.
It was a good time to reflect on life and death. Lez just had what would have been her 74th birthday and Tucker passed away earlier today.
I struck up a conversation with a nice Dutch couple visiting Canada from the Dutch province of Friesland. As we stood talking to each other one of the local squirrels wandered slowly up to my feet. He then stood on my shoe and put his front paws on my leg. I reached down to push him off but he noticed my hand did not have any seeds for him, so he bit my finger. It was a nice moment in nature, but I would have to deal with the bite, so off I went back into town to get a tetanus shot and some antibiotics.
All's well that ends well, I say.
Steph and Aaron's dog, Tucker, passed away today at over 10 years of age. He had been diagnosed with a tumor on his spleen.
He was the most gentle and well behaved dog I have ever known. When walking off-leash, he would never wander far off, but would always look back to see if we were coming.
One of the most touching events was seeing Lez's face light up when they brought Tucker to see her in the hospital, a few days before Lez passed.
