Our trip today took as through two towns with remaining elevators. Most towns have had their elevators removed or burned down. Yes, they are a fire hazard. Some places have taken the time, money and energy to preserve an elevator.

A well-maintained elevator is scarce to see, but heart warming when encountered.

Governments on the prairies should take the same approach as The Netherlands does with windmills. Record them all as historic structures, do not allow them to be altered or demolished. Allow all people to enjoy these amazing buildings and the history of grain farming that they represents.
