We spotted this forlorn building alone on the prairie and decided to drive in for a closer look.
We concluded it was once a community centre (as evidenced by the sign at the entrance). It has been taken over by pigeons but we ventured in all the same. Fully featured kitchen, power service, a piano and even a ping-pong table. And outside, a real 'two holer', a men's toilet with two seats.
In the trees near the entrance is a small church. It was apparently also a school at one time. The pews are still there as well as the church service sign-up sheets. And a pump organ like you might see in a cheesy western movie.
Lez tried out the piano in the community centre, being careful to keep her fingers away from the pigeon-pooped piano keys. It sounded very much in tune.
As we walked back to the car, we felt like we could hear the sounds of kids playing in the field, perhaps a softball game in progress and the field out front filled with big American cars and pickup trucks.
