Driving through the Cypress Hills west to east     [Sep 26, 2025]

This is one of our favourite drives in the Cypress Hills. For most of the distance from Highway 41 to Reesor Ranch this road is paved, but narrow. It snakes down from the bench (the upper, flat part of the Cypress Hills) and passes Reesor Lake (so named after the Reesor family who settled in the area in 1904) and large stands of Aspen and Ponderosa Pine.

Past the end of the pavement the road turns to gravel for a few kilometers before reaching the intersection that we take to reach the Reesor Ranch.

It is cooler in the Cypress Hills and it seems that most Aspen have turned colour to yellow, orange and red. As we drove through, we debated the meteorological events that make Aspen leaves turn various colours. No conclusion reached.
