A good Friday for a good game and a good team's championship.

Surfside RV Resort, Parksville BC (2 stars)

So, a road trip to Victoria for the sixth game if the VIJHL championship. And what a game. Early on, Brady Van Herk comes off the ice holding his shoulder. He comes back after the trainer pops his shoulder back in and tapes him up. But he's playing almost exclusively with one arm. What a trooper.

The game literally goes back and forth as a team ties it and goes ahead. At the end of regulation, it's tied 4-4. The first 10 minute overtime settles nothing. So, after a full intermission, the next overtime period. And sure enough the league's MVP, Carter Johnson, scores the winner. The Generals are league champions. Bedlam on the ice; bedlam in the stands, where more than 50% of the people are Generals supporters who came down for the game. Incredibly fun to watch.

Oh what a night .

A night to remember .

No, I'm not talking about song titles! Since arriving at Surfside RV, we have been attending the local Vancouver Island Junior Hockey League (VIJHL) hockey team - the Oceanside Generals. They are now the 2022-2023 Champions.

In attending the games, we, by chance sat next to the family of one of the defencemen for the Generals. What an insight into the world of junior hockey - from family perspectives. Commitment, comradeship, cost!
