A rare sighting of a Quail.

Surfside RV Resort, Parksville BC (2 stars)

We wandered up to the store for some fresh fruit leaving the cameras behind. Never do that. On the way back, we came across a very different bird sound which turned out to be a Quail, quite identfiable with his little head plume or topknot - which is actually made of 6 feathers. We were so close but had no camera handy.

Later in the day we watched the Oil Kings win yet another game. We also followed and listened to the Oceanside Generals take it on the chin in Saanich. Oh well, we'll be at the rink for game three to cheer them on.

Lez enjoys quilting and a walkabout: I spent most of the day at the mid-arm quilting machine, working on a quilt. The work station is comfortably and strategically situated so I could also see the Edmonton Oil Kings and hear the Oceanide Generals games.

I took a break in the afternoon and wandered to the sea wall, with camera in hand, hoping to see the seals or sea lions making the noise out there. Well, they actually were quite aways away much closer to French Creek. The sound travels well over the water on a still day. I took a few photos of the grey day and a couple of birds, including a Flicker. The walk felt good and more quilting followed.
