We surveyed the damage afterwards     [Jan 7, 2022]

This trip's travel Calendar Back Home

We ventured out later in the afternoon to get a sense of what had happened. Shocking to say the least. Many RV's were surrounded by several inches of water. There was silt on the roads where the water had poured through between RV's. The seawall was impassable for most of its length because of small rock movement, some tree trunks had been blown right over the seawall and against some sites' glass fencing. Some were shattered. Our neighbour Ron mentioned when we returned that there had been seaweed a meter thick on the seawall in one place.

We won't be walking the seawall anytime soon, perhaps not until next fall when we return. And we feel bad for the RV's that have suffered water damage, most of which are un-occupied while the owners enjoy the Arizona sun. What a frightful telephone call to get from one of their Surfside neighbours.
