The post-New Year's rush.

Surfside RV Resort, Parksville BC (2 stars)

Lee went for some groceries and propane first thing. It was actually busy around Parksville and some store shelves were bare. Keep in mind that 'busy' means Lee could not park Chuck right outside the door of the store he wanted to visit. Yah, life is tough.

Lee is amazed at how quickly the snow is disappearing. The Schooner roof and slides are bare, most of our spot is back to stone and the surrounding estuary and Parksville Park are now mostly bare.

Lez has pencil in hand: I am working on an art quilt - a quilted wall hanging meant to be displayed, not nearly big enough to curl up with. I like the smaller projects, which can be done quickly, plus I am using a background set of fabrics fused together in a wiggly woven look that has been waiting years to be completed! I have an excuse now to finish a project! I am making a "thank you" gift for a friend.

A silhouette was drawn on paper side of a product called Wonder Under. It is a thin opaque white paper with a very fine spray of dry glue affixed to the backside. The non-glue side of the thin paper has a reverse of the outline of the silhouette picture drawn on it. The glue side is pressed to the backside of dark fabric and the outline is cut out of the glued paper and fabric, the paper then removed. The now-glued silhouette fabric is pressed to the front side of the background woven piece to show the silhouette.

Quilt batting and a backing piece of fabric will complete the 3 layers of a traditional quilt. The layers will be quilted together in the next few days of poopy weather on the mid-arm quilting machine set up in the living room.

I am showing a photo of an older piece. This latest project photo will be added to the post once the quilt is gifted.

This is one of my favourite techniques, one which I have taught in many quilt classes.
