Blinds and valances and things.

Surfside RV Resort, Parksville BC (2 stars)

We got into a discussion about blinds and valances at breakfast, spurred on by the fact that one of the bedroom blinds failed once again. Lee fixed that one. We then determined what we wanted for new valances along the top of the blinds and Lee spec'd them out. Now to build them and Lez to cover them. Lez has had the fabric for many years, maybe decades.

Later on, after another Oil Kings win (minus four of the best players who are at the Canadian Junior team camp), Lee built his first home-made pizza in a long time. We then walked the garbage down to the receptacles, and back to the seawall. When we got back to the Schooner, we out back in the dark on a very quiet, very still evening. It was plus five and very enjoyable.

As we often do, we went for an evening walk - ok it was around 10 pm. But the wild wind had dropped, the skies clouded over, keeping the warmth in. Clouds were high enough to cause them to be lighter over the towns around. Tide was way out again, the sand spits and large boulders off shore were just slightly darker than the Salish Sea. The night walk along the Sea Wall felt good. When we got back to the Schooner, we sat on the bench outside the RV and just enjoyed the quiet, the distance lights of a few homes near Shelly Park, and view of lights up the hill towards the hum of traffic. A few geese and ducks made some noise, but they were all well camouflaged on the shores of the estuary.

Speaking of camouflage, the fabric for the new valances will be hard to miss. And yes, there is a good chance that fabric is at least 10 years old.

As Lee watched the Oil Kings on the TV in the living room, I settled in the bedroom with my laptop on the counter and watched a Zoom session Edmonton and District Quilt Guild meeting. We don't usually do December meetings, and this one was a no business to report meeting. We did have a multi-themed quilt challenge to show. We had submitted photos of quilts, and they were displayed in their categories and the Zoom attendees were able to vote for their favourite. For the category of a quilt inspired by a photo, I submitted my quilt of the last time my dad was with us for our annual birch cutting for the winter. It won the viewer's choice in that category. I was speechless - there are SO many beautiful quilts.
