Map - To St. Victor, Mossbank and back

Jean Louis Legare Regional Park, Willow Bunch (2 stars)

We drove over to the St. Victor Petroglyphs and actually managed to spot several of the carvings. The flowers leading to and from the observation area were just as spectacular. Next, we headed into Assiniboia (mostly forgetable), gassed up and moved on. We stopped on the side of highway 2 for lunch, watching a farmer fill his sprayer from a truck and then spraying his field. Next up, Mossbank. We stopped there because it has an elevator, but that turned into a nice set of close-up elevator shots, including how they tie down those metal bins that we see many of blown over and damaged as we travel.

As we then proceeded east, we entered some rolling country up to Crane Valley. Another elevator, but the stuff left sitting around was even more interesting. Farmers now use 18 wheelers to haul grain, so the old three ton trucks used in older days are now abandoned. There were five of them around the Crane Valley elevator.

We headed back to Willow Bunch for a nice BBQ supper and fire pit, with marshmallows of course.

Lez notes: MANY years ago, Lee and I were at the St. Victor Petroglyphs. One day when we get to digitizing our slides we will be able to tell you when that was. Rough guess is late 70's as we had already met future business partner, Brian Farwell, by then and knew he was born in the area. Times have changed the clarity of the carvings, and there are now fences around the rock to prevent further non weather related damage.

We took more photos of the flowers in the area than we did of the petroglyphs.

Another photo drawing was Big Muddy Lake. It is a saline lake - and the wind was whipping up the salt devils - little whirlwinds of salt. The alkaline flats are expansive and baren.

As we headed back to our campsite at Jean Louis Legare, we saw many mule deer and got a great silhouette photo. There were various birds of prey on the fence posts too. They were wary of vehicles slowing down - and not about to hang around for the photo. Got lots of photos of them from the back end. Maybe one identifiable from underneath. Guess we will just have to keep trying!

We have enjoyed the Willow Bunch area, over 100 photos yesterday, which we will cull down. But oh what a great weather aka views forever day. Not too hot, prairie winds, evening around the firepit at Jean Louis Legare campground. Oh the sound of crickets, sooooo prairie. We do not hear crickets in Edmonton.Off to Ogema and parts east and south for the next few days.

LOL, we are so "suffering", so many friends who do not RV or camp wonder how we make it through.

Breaky today, omelettes, leftover from dinner (ham, veggies, fresh veggies) and a sauce over top, mayo, sambal oelek (red pepper spice) and Dijon mustard. , strawberry, blue berry, bananas. Coffee and plans for the day. Hobbes goes out for a wee walk with dad.
