Canyon Alpine RV Park, Boston Bar, BC (2 stars)

Lee had looked up some sights to see in the Fraser Canyon and we started with the Old Alexandra Bridge located south of Boston Bar. The existing bridge was built in 1926 on piers built for the original bridge in 1863. The bridge is now well worn, rusty and in need of restoration. Our camp ground operator told Lee there are plans to do so as it is the only Gold Rush era crossing left in the Fraser Canyon.

The bridge deck is corrugated steel so you can see through it to the rushing water below. It takes a little getting used to but we made it to the other side. There is a great view of the new bridge (1964) that replaced the Old Alexandra Bridge.

Next, we rode the Hell's Gate Air Tram from the top by the highway to the bottom on the west bank. This is the narrowest part of the river (110 feet) and the rushing water shows it. Great views from the west bank.

The Fraser Canyon is one spectacular photographer's dream. Lots of swirling waters and rapids, the trains going through and forest views close and distant. The weather was again so super - not a cloud in the sky. Too many photos again to choose from. The steel see-through bridge deck was rather interesting - walking on it was no issue for me, it was cool to look through the metal at the rushing water below, as we walked over the deck. The un-winding look of one of the rusted out supports did give one second thoughts about the safety of the old bridge. Photos were taken of the river through the bridge deck, it and more taken as we took the Air Tram over the river.

There was a small info display of the bridges and the railway construction - very hard to comprehend the work being done in some places where the rock face is just straight up - and down, with no apparent way to scale it.

We had a tailgate lunch today! We packed a lunch, and when we finished our wandering, we dropped Chuck's tailgate, and sat on it and munched on the sandwich and olives lunch, overlooking the forest we had just wandered through.

We found there were a lot of motorcylists on the highway today - perfect weather for them too.
