Peace and smoke.

Rendez-vous RV Park, Peace River, AB (2 stars)

Lee went for groceries and immediately noticed that the Peace River valley looks like the Great Smoky Mountains in Kentucky. And it smelled like the neighbour's camp fire. All of this from the Jasper National Park forest fires some 400 kilometers to the south.

We were joined by Carole and Chuck Gold for supper. Salmon on the BBQ and pie for dessert. A great time.

As Lee went out to top up the larder, I was cleaning up and preparing for guests. Carole and Chuck Gold came over to our place and we enjoyed an afternoon of conversation that carried over from yesterday. Carole and I have determined we have a lot of quilting ideas and techniques in common, more than we realized. We also found ourselves in a quilt book authored by Lucie Heins. Serendipity. We are in the same article. Her quilt is featured in the section War and Quilts. Carole made a QOVC quilt from "Hug Blocks", a Quilts of Valour - Canada project to encourage Canadian quilters who didn't have time to make a whole quilt to make a quilt block or two and forward them to a QOV representative to be incorporated into a quilt to comfort our Canadian soldiers who sustained injuries, visible or non-visible. Carole made one of those quilts. The second page of the article shows veteran Patrick Conlin and I presenting that quilt to veteran Henry Helfrich who served Canada from 1943 to 1944. A shrapnel injury ended his service.
