A look back to 1974

Willowbend Campground, Maple Creek, SK (1 star)

We got it in our heads that we should try to retake a couple of photos of us at Conglomerate Cliffs taken in August 1974 when we came to Cypress Hills camping with Pwagen, our then brand new car. So, off we went this morning for an encore visit to that wonderful place. The weather was iffy, overcast and foggy, but we did our best to remake the photos as close to the originals as possible. Use the button above to see those photos.

In the afternoon we hosted Connie for an encore visit with her before we leave Maple Creek for points west.

We had a fun time going through our current clothing to find items that resembled what we wore back in 1974 when we sat on the Conglomerate Cliffs. Lee has done a great task of connecting "then and now" pictures of us! We laughed!

We also got some great "misty moors" photos, the fog rolled through sometimes too thick to see very far, sometimes almost clear. A very eerie feeling as the cows (the misty moos) stood and watched us go by them in the field. It is very dry all over the southern prairie, and at the cliffs, no different. The grasses so dry they crackle when you walk over the terrain.

We were sorry to hear Ross was unable to join us, but OK with his decision to keep us clear of his cold.

We talked of so many things. One of the topics included the couple Alf and Anne Poulter who introduced us to the Weiss family in the 70's in Maple Creek. As conversations go, and topics in all directions, I mentioned I was having a difficult time finding egg cups - because we do enjoy a softboiled egg for breakfast on occasion. We laughed when Connie said she had some from Alf and Anne's estate and would look for them! Sure enough, after she got home, she sent us a photo of 3 egg cups - which she does not use! We made arrangements to pic them up tomorrow.
