Tired of looking out for the pot holes in the highway.

Map - Shoal Lake to the Karau acreage

Karau Acreage, Esterhazy, SK (2 stars)

Lee thinks this was perhaps the worst road conditions we have experienced in our 830+ days on the Roads Less Gravelled adventure. Manitoba Highway 478 west of Binscarth is extremely bumpy with failing pavement. As it crosses the Assiniboine River the road is essentially reverted to gravel. A sign says it is bumpy and 30 kph is recommended. Lee drove these sections at 10 kph.

It was nice to stay on the Karau acreage again; Joyce is a wonderful host. Lee took the time to pick some raspberries from their huge patch. Delicious.

Another hop, skip and jump - this time it was along the 478 HWY. Note - try to take another route! Manitoba 478, especially going over the Assiniboine River re-arranged the furnishings in the RV like never before. The golden prize for worst road condition is now given to to the Manitoba Highways department for that particular rough road condition sign we took a photo of today and we later found that same sign on the internet street view taken in - wait for it - 2009. Can this really be

On a much lighter note, we have arrived at the Karau acreage and spent a lovely afternoon, dinner and evening with Joyce. Dan was busy today. We also had some puppy time with Jake and Charlie. Joyce and Dan are quilters so she and I had a lot to share. Meanwhile, Lee went out and raided their raspberry bushes. I don't think they will notice the dent - they are prolific.

Their acreage is for sale. If we were not still travelling and were 10 years younger, we would consider it!
